Helpful Hints for Your Furnace & AC

⚠️
#1 Reason for a Needless Service Call

Dirty Filters

Furnaces and air conditioning systems need air flow to work properly. When airflow is restricted:

  • 🔥 Furnaces will short-cycle — turning on and off repeatedly during the heating cycle.
  • ❄️ AC Systems will freeze up at the coil above the furnace and no air will get through.
Tip: Change your filter regularly during heating and cooling season to avoid this problem and save wear and tear on your system. Short-cycling is especially hard on ignitors and control boards.

Tip 01

Insulate Your Attic

Have adequate insulation in your attic — there should be at least 14 inches of insulation. This will help tremendously to keep inside temperatures comfortable during both heating and cooling season.

Tip 02

Seal Windows & Openings

Look for cracks and openings around windows that can be sealed with caulking to keep outside air where it belongs. Small gaps can dramatically increase your heating and cooling costs.

Tip 03

Seal Your Duct Leaks

Put air where you need it — not in the furnace room. Use your hand to feel for leaks around and above the furnace. Buy a roll of metal tape from your local hardware store (not duct tape — it dries up and doesn't hold) and seal the leaks after wiping off any dust.
